Cyliner Liner Replacement

Upon request ,we attended a ship having elevated temperatures in one of the main engine unit cylinders and determined that the liner was scuffed after calibration of the cylinder liner . Further investigation revealed that the root cause of the issue was a blockage in the lubricating coils. To address this comprehensively, we recommended replacing the affected liner to ensure the engine's optimal performance. In addition, we overhauled the lubricating coils to eliminate any obstructions and conducted thorough testing to verify that the lubricating system was restored to full operational condition. We advised the ship owners not only to replace the liner but also highlighted the necessity of addressing the blocked lubricating coils. Following the overhaul of the lubricating coils and subsequent testing, the system was successfully restored to working condition

Crank pin Surface scoring

One of the challenging job was Crank pin of the Auxiliary engine was found in scratched condition.We inspected and carried out grinding step by step until the crank pin is in good condition within the manufacturer’s allowable limit and replaced the crank pin bearing to a oversized to maintain the clearance within the acceptable limits.Once the job was completed,Carried out test trial and the end results was good.

Main Engine Starting Trouble and Performance (Fuel Pump Problem)

A ship experienced difficulties starting its engine and requested maintenance assistance. At that time, we were unable to respond immediately, so we advised them to consult the nearest service engineer. While the local team managed to start the engine, it was only able to achieve a maximum of 83 RPM, prompting them to reach out for our assistance again. Upon our arrival, we diagnosed the issue and identified that the fuel pump injection timing was misaligned. We adjusted the injection timing across all units of the fuel pump, and following this adjustment, we conducted a sea trial. The results were successful, with the engine achieving an RPM of 103.”

Upon the owner’s request ,we carried out Fuel pump overhauling onboard the ship.

Crankshaft Replacement

At the owner’s request, we replaced the crankshaft of the auxiliary engine. After completing the replacement, we conducted a test trial, which confirmed that the engine was operating in good running condition.

Main Engine Starting Trouble (Fuel Pressure in Common Rail not increasing)

The common rail pressure was insufficient for optimal engine operation, leading to starting difficulties. During troubleshooting, we identified the issue as a malfunctioning pressure control valve in the fuel common rail system. We proceeded to overhaul the pressure control valve, successfully rectifying the problem. Following the repair, we conducted a test trial, which confirmed the system was now functioning effectively.

Main Engine Health Check

Following a recent ownership transfer, we conducted a thorough health assessment of the vessel's engine, covering its mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems. This evaluation included a detailed inspection of key engine components such as the cylinder head, jacket system, charge air cooler, servo oil pumps, common rail fuel pumps, VCU (Vessel Control Unit), CLU (Cylinder Control Unit), and individual ICU (Injection Control Unit) modules. Additionally, we carefully measured the clearances for the main bearing, crank pin bearing, guide shoes, and crosshead.Futhermore, following inspections were carried out in detail.

Including the piston crown, Piston skirt, Piston Ringland, ring clearances, any ring breakage, Ring movement, Condition of liner wall and under piston area based on the sludge accumulation.

The final report provided the client with a comprehensive overview of the engine’s condition, identifying any components needing timely renewal to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Starting Air Leak Issue

Upon conducting a detailed inspection, we identified the source of the leak as a faulty starting air shut-off valve. Several damaged components were observed, including a sheared-off spring holder on the valve guide, a damaged valve body stopper, a bent compression spring for the valve guide, irregularities in the valve seat's seating surface, and sheared-off protruding legs of the valve body. To address these issues, a new valve body was installed, a valve stopper was fabricated, and the valve guide was replaced. The valve seat was lapped and tested for proper seating, and the compression spring for the valve guide was replaced. Furthermore, we overhauled the 5/2-way control valves within the starting air system and replaced worn O-rings. Additionally, the starting air valves of each unit were inspected for proper operation, with malfunctioning valves being replaced using available spares.

M/E Fuel Pump Plunger & Barrel Renewal

As per requested by the vessel superintendent, main engine was attended by Deccan Marine service team at Mumbai OPL (India) from 26/11/2024 to 28/11/2024. The job involved the renewal of the Main Engine's six fuel pump plungers and barrels. This ensured optimal fuel injection and restored engine performance.
